Jamaica Blue
Bradford | Bracknell | Bangor (NI) | Ipswich
We have supported Jamaica Blue sites across the UK, but we will highlight a flagship store - Bradford - for this case study.
We were recently commissioned by Food Co, an expanding coffee shop and restaurant brand in the UK, to undertake an extensive shop fit-out for their new Jamaica Blue Restaurant in Bradford’s Broadway Shopping Centre. This will be their first store in the Yorkshire area as the brand looks to continue it’s expansion north.
The client's vision was to create an inviting space that would reflect their brand's identity, continued franchise image and produce an offering different from competing F&B brands nearby. This project presented an exciting opportunity to showcase our expertise not only interior works, but our professionality as a Principal Contractor to perform enabling works, new services and in house joinery manufacturing.
PROJECT GOALS
Warming and Inviting Aesthetic: To design and implement a warming and inviting store environment that aligns with Jamacia Blue’s model and image.
Enhanced Functionality: To maximise the available space efficiently, ensuring easy access for customers, seating arrangements in relation to more durable surfaces, while also providing custom till and display areas.
Brand Image: To integrate Jamacia Blue’s branding elements throughout the shop to reinforce brand recognition and create a cohesive brand that is instantly recognisable across the UK.
Durability and Sustainability: To use eco-friendly and durable materials, promoting a sustainable approach while ensuring longevity in the design. This includes the joinery manufacture, Structural fabrication, steel fabrication and Mechanical and Electrical services planning to ensure the smooth running of the business for the foreseeable. This is to include features of productivity and ensuring the running of the restaurant with contingencies in place.
Timely Completion: To meet the strict timeline of completing the fit-out within three weeks.
PROJECT EXECUTION
Permit and Planning: Before starting construction, we obtained all necessary permits and approvals from local authorities and shopping centre management. Additionally, a detailed project plan was created, outlining the various stages of the renovation and setting milestones for progress tracking. As the centre is a high security building, all deliveries were required to be booked in 48 hours before to book slots. We also had the vet and control all persons on site at all times.
Renovation of the Existing Space: The unit underwent complete transformation. The unit required a significant strip out, we had to install new Mechanical and Electrical services throughout and perform the required enabling works to change the use into a cafe format from a retail store. Large glass storefront windows were kept and made good to allow the restaurant to stand out next to retailers like H&M. We also kept the large timber feature and incorporated this into the design including adding structural steel works to ensure stability.
Product Display and Custom Manufacturing: Custom-designed display units are fitted on top of the counter, designed and built by our in house joinery manufacturing division. We also fabricated the back of house stainless steel to perfectly fit around the stores baking requirements. All steel design features were fabricated and installed by our in house teams. All wall linings are also manufactured and installed by our in house team.
Branding and Signage: Jamaica Blue’s logo and signature branding elements were thoughtfully incorporated into the store design. This included larger features like the rear Halo-lit Jamacia Blue Signage and graphics throughout.
Checkout and Point-of-Sale Area: The checkout area was strategically positioned near the store's exit for smooth customer flow. Sleek, modern POS terminals were integrated, ensuring a swift and efficient purchasing process.
ACHIEVEMENTS
The Jamaica Blue store fit-out project was a tremendous success. Resulting in an extremely happy client and franchisee.
The new store design achieved the client's vision of a warming and inviting restaurant environment that not only serves as a place to grab a quick cappuccino, but somewhere to sit, catch up and enjoy one of the delicious offerings on the Australian vibed menu.
The cohesive integration of the brand's identity throughout the space strengthened Jamacia Blue’s market presence in the Yorkshire region as it’s first Yorkshire store. The project was completed within the three-week timeline and handed over smoothly.
Our team at James Carson Construction Group takes pride in contributing to the success of this transformative fit-out, and we look forward to further collaborations with hospitality brands seeking unique space transformations.
